We’re Tom and Margaret, Jasmine and Juliet Donnelly. Two adults, two dogs and no agenda. We have been dreaming of seeing the country—meandering across the U.S. with no plans except a sense of adventure. This blog chronicles our trip that transpired between April and June of 2013, and the travels enjoyed since then!
We anticipated that we would be on the road from four to six weeks, give or take. We wanted to see a few key sights like the Grand Canyon and Yellowstone and to drive Historic Route 66. We had planned to visit a few friends along the way. Otherwise, we were open.
We ended up driving over 9300 miles over 53 days. And we’re not done yet! We’re still planning on seeing other places in the future.
If you have any suggestions on places we should visit, please leave a comment here. We’ll be sure to check it out!
Special thanks to our house-sitter! You’re the BEST!
don’t know where you’re heading but I recommend Wall, S.Dakota, the Badlands and the whole area around Mt. Rushmore. There’s actually a lot to see there.
Thanks Naomi! We were thinking about Mt. Rushmore, and then the Corn Palace!
When and if you hit California give us a call we have room for the 4 of you.
Thanks to you both! We are only going as far West as Utah at this point. Unfortunately, California isn’t on the agenda. Miss you both and hope all is well!
If you get to southern Utah(Kanab) you should check out Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. It is an awesome place to visit/volunteer and the scenery is breathtaking. Any questions let me know. Have enjoyed reading your posts and hearing about your adventures.

Thanks Denise! We were thinking of it…I’ve been a fan of Dog Town for quite some time!
Best Friends is where a good number of Vick dogs were taken to live and try to recover as best they can. I hear they are doing better and some have even been adopted….
